A short documentary I made on Kelvin Falconer, a blind Shakuhachi maker and player from New Zealand. This short has been shown in the New Zealand International Film Festival and several other independent film festivals.

Your comments and thoughts gladly received. Please feel free to share.

That would be Karmajampa from the Shakuhachi BBQ Forum. It's great to finally put a face on all his posts.

What a unique and personal process with making, playing and meditation.

Great work! - Perry

I found that beautiful. Lovely pacing - I like the recurring moments of silence (apart from the subtle flute, of course). Thanks a lot for posting this, and congratulations on a job well done!

Very nice -- I will watch it again once I'm done typing this. Your cinematography and editing fit the calm and meditative manner of Mr. Falconer and the subject material.

Thank you so much for sharing.

Beautiful film about Kelvin!

As mentioned by Kiku, it would be wonderful to have Kelvin back on the forum again.

Thank you all for all your kind comments, Kelvin was very inspirational to be around and was great to get such a thorough insight into the process and learn about the rich history of the Shakuhachi.

Well, it hasn't been for lack of trying, but subscribing to this Forum has taken me longer than it takes to make a flute, and a reasonably good one at that.
I began the process three days ago after David told me he had read about the Documentary link here and I had to come see what Boofa had been up to, then see your wonderful responses and Kiku and Eren requesting my return, how could I resist.

I missed the Barbecue banter but I haven't been quiet, as you have noticed.

What a treat to have Boofa do this document, I now have my first grand-daughter and she can know what I was up to when she was born, plus I play to her all the time, she is going to be a player soon!

And my dear friend Tarchin and I are giving our 7th Annual Shakuhachi Meditation Retreat this January, what a Blessing bamboo has been, so many lovely stories, rich relationships, definitely a wonderfully wholesome way to Live!

I will have to go read through some of the Archives now you have got me going, what has been happening, are we in Europe or not ?

Wishing you All Well and Happy,
Metta,
Kel.

Hey Kel,

Great to be able to talk to you directly on here, and to hear you're going to be around on the forum.

I was really touched by that video, and have shared it around my friends. If at any point our paths cross I'd love to play shakuhachi with you, or at the very least have a chat over a cup of tea! At the risk of sounding patronising I was amazed with what you could do despite your visual problems; long story short I am "blind" (though not 100%) in one my eyes and I have a feeling as time goes on it's going to put more and more strain on my "good" eye (over the past few years it's got worse and I now need glasses to keep the strain off), so it's actually really nice to know that if things do get worse, all is not lost!

All the best and merry Christmas from England mate Smile

James

Hey James, I'll put the kettle on !
Blindness can be a 'pain in the butt', but one has to adjust attitudes and views and 'get on with it'!
Use it, because we're going to lose it !
