Hi Roban. If you go to the "Listen" tag on the website, there is a section on learning the shakuhachi, with helpful recordings. It really only hints at the way to go with breathy sounds, but as always its a question of time and technique. Experiment.

Felix,

I'm Tozan School trained, and in our School there is less emphasis on blowing techniques, and apart from some special sounds like KORO-KORO we basically play the melody as written. This is why lately I became interested in such techniques (which are more important in other Schools such as Kinko for instance). If anyone has any question about Tozan School issues though, I can try to answer of course.

By the way, thank you for the details about how to find the playing tips on Philip Horan's site, I thus discovered a wealth of information that I'll go over in the next days.
