Hello! My name is Jerry and I'm a Miami, FL based tin whistler. Last year I started making bamboo and PVC flutes and fifes. Mostly aimed at American folk and blues style playing but I decided on making a PVC shakuhachi for practice last week and I've fallen in love!!

I've been a practicing Buddhist for 15 years so the meditation style of playing really vibes with me.
I find myself blowing Ro every day now and can't wait to get a better shakuhachi for my practice!

I'm leaning towards an affordable PVC "Yuu" flute to begin but does anyone know of any sources for root end bamboo blanks??

Not that it really matters, but I believe the Yuu is ABS rather than PVC. As for root end bamboo blanks, Mejiro has bamboo for shakuhachi.
