I am happy in introduce here the work of my friend Rafael Hirochi Fuchigami. It's the first specific work published about shakuhachi in Brasil (maybe the first in portuguese?).
The original article is called: "Shakuhachi: de arma de combate e ferramenta religiosa a instrumento musical" or "Shakuhachi: from combat weapon and religious tool to a musical instrument."
A really good research that will be very useful for those who can read portuguese! It has 21 pages and covers the historical and musical development of shakuhachi and also have words about the panorama here in Brazil.
Hirochi is making silver flute graduation in one of the best music university in Brazil (Unicamp), and of course getting deep into shakuhachi! People who want to know more about Hirochi and his work can acess his blog: www.hirochifuchigami.blogspot.com/p/publicacoes.html . In that page you will see two links, the above one is the link to the publication where the article was published, and the bottom one is a direct link to the article!!!
For those who want to check but don't speak portuguese, Google translation tools may be useful!!!
I can say that it really worth a sit and read it!!!
A big hug!!!
