Recently there have been many inquiries about my upcoming annual Trip to Japan (Nov.18-Dec. 4, 2011), by those who would like to join the trip, as well as some in Japan who would like to perform with us. The original trip was to have been the continuation of following Bassho's "Narrow Path to the North" that we began last year, and we were going to go this past Spring. The earthquake and Tsunami made this impossible. So we are now doing this tour, and will perform along the way for the safe passage of the spirits of those who have passed away, into their next incarnation. Here is a Daily Itinerary of the Trip:

Tenri Tours 2011

11/18 Leave USA.

11/19 Arrive in Tokyo (Tohon Dai Kyokai). Stay in Tokyo at Tohon Dai Kyokai.

11/20 Visit Asakusa. We can also visit the Edo Museum if we like. Stay in Tokyo at Tohon Dai Kyokai.

11/21 Pick up car in Tokyo and go to visit the great Shakuhachi maker Sadao Chinone, and perhaps go and take baths at a nearby Hot Spring Resort. We will perform a Concert for the safe-passage of those spirits that passed on during the earthquake/tsunami of March 2011. Stay in Tokyo at Tohon Dai Kyokai.

11/22 On this day we leave Tokyo and stop in Mie, where we will visit Ise Jingu - the center of the Japanese Shinto religion. We may also see the famous two-rocks that are tied to each other by rope symbolizing eternal marriage - Futami Ga Ura. We will stay at a Hotel in Mie Prefecture.

11/23 Return to Ojiba, Tenri, Nara Prefecture. Visit Yama No Be No Michi - oldest mountain road in Japan, and the oldest Shinto Shrine in Japan-Ise No Kami Jingu. We will stay for our three evenings at Tohon Dai Kyokai Tsumesho in Tenri.

11/24 In the morning, we will do a Besseki Lecture. On this day we will visit Horyuji, the oldest Buddhist Temple in Japan. We may perform our second Recital at the KODO Hall in Tenri today.

11/25 Leave for Uji (where we will go to our favorite tea store to sample tea) and visit a few beautiful temples. Perhaps we will visit Manpukuji, a famous Zen Temple in the Chinese style which is believed to contain some remains of Dogen Zenji. No one in the group has been there before. Then, hopefully we can Sanpai at Hon Daigo (Minooka-Sensei's Fellowship) and go to Soryo Bun Kyokai in Kyoto. It is near the beautiful Eastern Mountains of Higashiyama. We will stay here while in Kyoto.

11/26 Go to Ohara San Zen In (Temple and garden) and Jyaku-in (a Buddhist nunnery). They are beautiful temples in the northern area of Kyoto. Perhaps those who want to could study with Kurahashi Sensei. We stay again in Kyoto.

11/27 We will visit Kyoto Handicraft Center, the traditional music store Kanazen, as well as downtown Kyoto. Perhaps those who want to could study with Kurahashi Sensei. We stay again in Kyoto.

11/28 We will visit the Zen Temple Tofukuji, and Kurahashi Yodo I Sensei's grave at Meianji. We may also visit Gin-kakuji (Temple of the Silver Pavillion). Perhaps those who want to could study with Kurahashi Sensei. We stay again in Kyoto. This will be our fourth and final night in Kyoto.

11/29 Go to Hakone. This is the famous resort area of Japan. It also has, what I believe to be, the most beautiful outdoor sculpture museum in the world. We will visit that museum as well as Hakone's famous hot springs, and we will stay in or close to Hakone.

11/30 View Fuji-San on our return trip to Tokyo. Stay in Tokyo at Tohon Dai Kyokai. Return car on this day.

12/1 Visit the beautiful city of Kamakura, which was the capital of Japan for a short time. Here we can see the famous Bronze Buddha and many Temples and Gardens. Stay in Tokyo at Tohon Dai Kyokai

12/2 On this day we will visit the Traditional Japanese Music store Mejiro, and we will spend the afternoon-evening enthralled with the Grand Kabuki. Stay in Tokyo at Tohon Dai Kyokai.

12/3 We will visit the nearby city of Kawasaki, where we will walk around the folk art museum known as Minka-en. In this outdoor park there are many examples of different types of traditional thatched huts that have been brought to this place from all over Japan. Stay in Tokyo at Tohon Dai Kyokai.

12/4 Return to USA.
