Hi,

I would like share with you some early news about the festival held in Prague this year.

Our confirmed guests from Japan so far are Takahashi Ryudo (fuke style of Yamagata region), Kikuko Sato (great koto and shamisen player of Ikuta school) and Christopher Yohmei Blasdel (Kinko school).

This powerful line-up will be complemented with some of the very best of European shakuhachi players such as Gunnar Jinmei Linder (Kinko School), Jean-François Lagrost (Tozan style) and Jim Franklin who, for the very first time, will lead a four day masterclass on shakuhachi and electronics (with Pure Data software). So don't forget to bring your laptops!

The festival courses are tailored to meet the needs of players of all levels. There will be individual as well as group lessons. We also offer a course for absolute beginners at discount price. Furthermore, it is possible to receive PSF scholarship if you find yourself in such financial situation which would otherwise keep you from attending. The courses prices are not finalized just yet but you should expect prices like last year (approx. 200 EUR for regular shakuhachi course and approx. 60 EUR for absolute beginners shakuhachi, koto and shamisen courses). I am very pleased to inform you that for the koto courses we have managed to secure three kotos (one more than last year), so the capacity and intensity of that course should improve.

Venue of the festival remains the same Lichtenstein Palace at Malostranske namesti at the heart of Prague's histrorical city centre.

Regarding the concerts, you can expect the usual unusual range of genres from electronics, soundart and ensamble contemporary music to sankyoku and honkyoku. For the very first time, we are preparing a jazz night session at one of Prague's jazz clubs. Nothing is set yet, but wish us luck, should be great.

If you would like to present a paper at the musicological conference held as a part of the festival, please email me.

The festival website with info about the players, application form and so on, should be up soon. We'll keep you informed.

Cheers and let's meet in Kyoto!
