This one is played on a very old Edo period flute that I just got in an antique shop in Kyoto and Perry restored with his magic touch.
Thank you Perry and thanks JF Lagrost for generously sharing the score!
(Sorry for the funny noise that Soundcloud seems to add in the transcoding)

Very beautiful! Thank You! Is it very different playing on an antique flute? It sounds like you've brought out the best in any differences..., such an amazing sound.

Thanks Charles... the credit goes to Perry. He restores the flutes with great respect for their original feel and sound but tweaks the playability to such a high level that I feel I could play anything on it. I guess these flutes are not meant to play "modern" music, but if the instrument can deliver, why limit oneself? These old flutes (this one is probably close to two hundred years old) sound like nothing else I've ever heard or played... that's for sure... Here's a picture of it:

You may notice Perry moved one hole (third), since the tuning was waaay off, and I opened up a little bit the first hole to make the tsu meri a little louder... Other than that it's the same old beauty, cleaned up and tweaked up Very Happy

Thank you for sharing that! It's a very sweet and pleasant interpretation. Indeed, we regret that Soundcloud compress the sound as much, especially when good performers play on fine instruments. Okay
I'll teach Kangetsu this summer in Prague Festival!

Thanks for sharing that Pepe! It's always a pleasure working on your flutes. Knowing your capabilities pushes mine.
A deep bow,
Perry

Beautiful piece. Your antique flute has a lovely voice, echoing an enigamtic sound from a bygone era. Kudos to Dr. Perry for his intuitive re-birthing of this ancient instrument... and to you Pepe, for sharing the beauty of your bright, clear soul. Okay
