I regret to write that the great Shakuhachi player/teacher Homei Matsumusra (a member of Chikumeisha) has passed away.
His student Kurahashi Yodo II, has informed me that his funeral will be held at Noon, this Saturday, March 2nd, at Belico Hall, in front of the NaraJR station.

Let us all play Banshiki, Tamuke, or whatever our Hearts tell us will be appropriate for the safe passage of his spirit into its next incarnation.

I met and heard Matsumura sensei several times. He was a gentle, sweet man. I have a photo of him in my dojo.

James, thanks for the photo!
Now having a face to put together with the name, I know that I have met him several times too.
I also have the memories of a very gentle and open person.

You are all looking pretty good on this photo! Okay to the trio!

I spoke with John Singer, who is over there for the funeral. He said a lot of shakuhachi people showed up to pay their respects.
