This past weekend the Phoenix Shakuhachi Friends group had our August meeting.
Along with the 2 members from Meetup.com there were 3 other players who planned on showing up and 2 more maybes. We have some cancelations and ended up with 4 players. After some introductions and Ro-Buki worked our way through Choshi. We used this piece and others to discuss the different notation, fingering and styles/schools of shakuhachi playing. We worked on a phrase then each would echo it back to the group. Wonderful fun! We also discussed my experience at the Shakuhachi Camp of the Rockies back in July. My wife was nice enough to prepare us a cold Asian noodle Salad. She’s from Cambodia and an amazing cook.
Our next gathering will be September 24th and we are all looking forward to it. Our August gathered was held indoors since Arizona was about 105 degs F. If the weather is cool enough we'll consider playing out on the porch with an amazing view of the mountains surrounding Cave Creek AZ.
All are welcome to our gatherings, beginner, intermediate or advance, even people who have never played. I've got some PVC practice shakuhachi new people can try out.
If anyone wants more info or attend please contact me and I'll provide you with the address and directions. The event is in my home so I don't post them here. You can also find more information on our blog at http://phoenixazshakuhachi.blogspot.com/
I'm hoping to see a few more players on the 24th of September. _________________ Chuck Peck Arizona, USA Www.phoenixshakuhachi.com
