To all in London and England and for those who might just be passing London
The Japan Matsuri will this year be held at Trafalgar Square in the heart of London, 6 October. I might not have got the time table exactly right so check it here when they finally get that time table up (it is not up yet 24 Sept)
13:30 - 14:00 Tsugaru-jamisen with Hibiki and his teacher from Japan. Hibiki is an amazing tsugaru-jamisen player, who has stayed now 1 1/2 in London on a working holiday visa! We surely hope he can stay and some people are working on it. It is GREAT with a shamisen player this level!
16:00 - 16:30. Okinawan music and drum-dance by the Okinawan group based at SOAS, University of London and led by the legendary min'yō expert David Hughes!
17:30 - 18:00: Frank Chickens. Amazingly funny Japanese women's liberation musical and humorous act!
18:00 - 18:30: Michael Soumei Coxall (shakuhachi) and Keiko Kitamura (koto) will play sankyoku pieces.
Yes, finally we got to the shakuhachi act!
Otherwise than the above there will be taiko, martial arts, cosplay, a karaoke competition, other Japanese dance and music, manga, and lots of food, arts and crafts!!!!
